SGS is part of a team led by WSP Global to design a pedestrian bridge over the CSX Kayne Avenue rail yard for Metro Nashville Public Works that will connect two of the most vibrant and quickly developing urban neighborhoods in downtown Nashville. The SoBro neighborhood is the location of the Music City Convention Center and related hotels which are filled with convention goers and tourists throughout the year. The Gulch neighborhood, masterplanned by members of SGS, has been realized and is now a highly active part of the city that includes many restaurants and bars as well as shopping at the street level of mid rise multifamily apartments and condos. The purpose of the bridge is to better connect the neighborhoods for pedestrians while also becoming an urban park destination within Nashville’s downtown. SGS provided overall design input as well as detailed design for the CSX required fencing, exterior glass elevators and design and coordination of stairs and park components along the span.
