Smith Gee Studio helped shape a home for Moondance Adventures, a small local business that organizes backpacking, climbing and community service experiences all over the world for students. The goal was to achieve a homey work-environment in century-old industrial building Cummins Station – to create a welcoming place where families felt comfortable getting to know about the program. Living room and dining room-like areas were designed for parents and students to meet with the team leaders – deep sofas, soft lighting, and a gallery of framed “family photos” highlight the guides and their adventures. Sisal carpet absorbs noise in the space; while upholstered fabric walls and daylight-softening sheers divide the various work areas. A custom wood/glass pivot door entry is a unique, inviting statement that represents a transition into the space and the quality of the program and the unique experience afforded the middle and highschool students who attend these programs.
